If you dream of becoming an accountant, perhaps you have heard the words Chartered Accountant and Certified Public Accountant. These titles are called accounting certification. An accounting certification is a professional designation recognised around the world. There are other accounting certifications other than the two, including Chartered Financial Analyst and Certified Internal Auditor.
Here are the differences and similarities between CA and CPA:
GRADUATE DIPLOMA
Chartered Accountant
To become eligible for the CA accounting certification, a person must have a graduate diploma in accounting and finance.
Certified Public Accountant
To become eligible for the CPA accounting certification, a person must have a graduate diploma in accounting, business, and finance.
ORGANISATION
Chartered Accountant
A person who aspires to be a Chartered Accountant must pass the examination administered by a few organisations, like the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). Many enrol in a chartered accountant course, study ICAEW modules, and complete the ICAEW ACA programme before the examination.
Certified Public Accountant
A person who aspires to be a Certified Public Accountant must pass the examination administered by a few organisations, like the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
COURSE DURATION
Chartered Accountant
It would take a person more or less five years to complete the CA course.
Certified Public Accountant
It would take a person more or less one year to complete the CPA course.
RECOGNITION
Chartered Accountant
Chartered Accountants are recognised in many countries, especially in the Middle East, India, and eastern countries.
Certified Public Accountant
Certified Public Accountants are recognised in many English-speaking countries, especially in the US.

Chartered Accountant
Chartered Accountant professionals are masters of finances and accounting, audit, and taxation.
Certified Public Accountant
Certified Public Accountant professionals are masters of business management, financial planning, and financial analysis.
