From Disappointment to Relief: How We Pushed Through With My Wedding Planning Amidst a Pandemic

· Wedding Planner,Wedding Coordinator,Singapore

I was newly engaged and was on top of the world. I was ready to start planning the magical wedding I have been dreaming of in my head and my heart for years. Then COVID-19 happened, we found ourselves in a time of uncertainty, with no guaranteed end date. I was stuck between wanting to plan my wedding and being hesitant to secure wedding coordinators in Singapore, out of fear the circumstances won’t improve by the time my big day rolls around.

It was a heavy feeling of disappointment to plan my wedding not knowing for certain if it will happen on my original date of choice, especially amidst the larger concerns of health and job security during a pandemic.

So, if you too are newly engaged and riding this roller coaster of emotions. First and foremost, I want you to know that my heart is with you! It doesn’t seem fair that the fun and customary wedding planning experience we have always envisioned has been taken away from us. However, I knew my wedding planning does not have to come to a halt. It was okay to hope and optimistically plan for the wedding. What better use of quarantine time than to plan a joyful occasion? Giving myself something to look forward to? Thankfully, with Beautifull Gathering, I managed to start executing my wedding plans.

I gathered my thoughts and inspiration

After I have had some time to grieve the traditional planning experience, I started focusing on the day that I have been envisioning and what I can control. I worked with my future husband to develop a budget and determine which aspects of the day are most important to us two. I recommend having a heart to heart talk and each listing out your top three “must-haves” or “biggest wishes” for the wedding. It is okay to have different answers. But it was a helpful guide during our planning process to check back in and make sure the day reflects both of us. Also, we did not lose focus during planning because of too much outside input from friends, family, and others.

We started a Pinterest board to save images we come across on Instagram. We also considered all of the colour palettes, florals, tablescapes, cakes, and other design ideas that caught our eyes and took some time to enjoy the pretty phase of wedding planning! A chat with my fiancé about venue styles was therapeutic. We went online to look at those in our area, making a list of venues we were most interested in. Many venues from my wedding planner in Singapore are offering virtual tours right now, which is super helpful since we are not able to see them in person just yet.

We also selected my wedding party guests that we want to invite and be a part of our special day. This did not have to be over the top gesture, but it will certainly make me feel more supported to have friends cheering me on as I wade through all the emotions of planning in the coming months! So, I guarantee that it will be a bright light for them during this time as well.

Good thing I found Beautifull Gathering

I may be biased that hiring a wedding event planner in Singapore has always been the best decision any couple can make in the wedding planning process, but it’s even more important now. Experienced full-service planners are currently figuring out the postponement process for couples affected by COVID-19, and we have become well-versed in how to plan during this pandemic. Moving forward, I was happy that they took on my wedding like there was nothing wrong, like there wasn't a pandemic.

After determining my budget and style, my wedding planners set up consultation calls to help me decide if I would need them as a full-service planner, an event management planner, or a partial wedding planner. Many of which also provided couples with great recommendations and information to begin the wedding planning process. In the end, I chose an event management planner, since I wanted to participate with the best I could, while they helped me out with the bits I needed to fill in.

Selecting a date

The reality of 2020 is that vendors are already booked through the rest of the year due to all the weddings that have been postponed. So, the first availability will likely be 2021. We worked with our planner to secure a venue and date considering that I still wanted to get married in 2020, Fridays and Sundays were my options. I thought, my friends and family, will show up to celebrate no matter what day of the week it is. But to be sure, I picked a Friday, the most uncommon day for a wedding but it is what it is.

Once I was able to pick a venue and date, I shared all my saved Pinterest boards and other inspiration with my wedding planner in Singapore. They then took those ideas and then vet available vendors that matched my style and budget. They started scheduling phone calls and virtual meetings with the vendors that book the quickest photographer, videographer, entertainment, hair/makeup, and officiant.

This quarantine experience worked in our favour as a newly engaged couple. Vendors are beyond excited to chat with new clients right now and it made us hopeful to look towards the future as well! Since most postponements through the next few months are already squared away, vendors now have more time to focus on new bookings and wedding plannings.
