I was newly engaged and was on top of the world. I was ready to start planning the magical wedding I have been dreaming of in my head and my heart for years. Then COVID-19 happened, we found ourselves in a time of uncertainty, with no guaranteed end date. I gathered my thoughts and inspiration
After I have had some time to grieve the traditional planning experience, I started focusing on the day that I have been envisioning and what I can control. I worked with my future husband to develop a budget and determine which aspects of the day are most important to us two. I recommend having a heart to heart talk and each listing out your top three “must-haves” or “biggest wishes” for the wedding. It is okay to have different answers. But it was a helpful guide during our planning process to check back in and make sure the day reflects both of us. Also, we did not lose focus during planning because of too much outside input from friends, family, and others.
We started a Pinterest board to save images we come across on Instagram. We also considered all of the colour palettes, florals, tablescapes, cakes, and other design ideas that caught our eyes and took some time to enjoy the pretty phase of wedding planning! A chat with my fiancé about venue styles was therapeutic. We went online to look at those in our area, making a list of venues we were most interested in. I thought, my friends and family, will show up to celebrate no matter what day of the week it is. But to be sure, I picked a Friday, the most uncommon day for a wedding but it is what it is.
